As MIGnews.com.ua reported, Court of California, on which the return of former Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko to Ukraine depended, passed a final sentence - Pavlo Lazarenko is sentenced to 97 months of imprisonment in jail.
Thus, the U.S. Federal Court has reduced by 11 months imprisonment to former Ukrainian Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko, who is serving sentence in U.S. prison, according to American media. On Wednesday, Judge Charles Breyer decided to reduce the sentence from 108 months of imprisonment to 97 months. The Court took into consideration the exemplary behavior of the prisoner behind bars and the absence of complaints to him by the prison authorities in Bay Area.
According to the lawyer of Pavlo Lazarenko Maryna Dolgopola, this court's decision is based on the fact that previously court exculpated Pavlo Lazarenko partially, including charges relating to the agricultural firm Naukova (Dnipropetrivsk Region) and its former director, former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, the late Mykola Ahafonov.
According to the court decision, the Bureau of Prisons must determine all procedural matters relating to the punishment and release of Pavlo Lazarenko in the term up to 3 months.
Pavlo Lazarenko and his defense say the court decision mentioned above was positive. This decision, according to Dolgopola, suggests saying that Pavlo Lazarenko has already served his sentence in the United States. By Interfax-Ukraine, Ukrainian News
